Attendance and Non-Attendance Related Referral Process
The Del Valle ISD District Student Support Office (DSSO) handles referrals to address attendance issues from all 13 campuses. There is a strict referral process in place to ensure that Truancy Prevention Measures and family engagement attempts at the campus level are exhausted prior to DSSO intervention. The District has invested in a truancy and dropout prevention software system that identifies students in need of interventions and prompts Truancy Prevention Measures. Once all interventions are completed and the student continues to miss school the system will generate a referral to DSSO. All evidence of interventions must be completed and documented prior to the referral. Referrals not meeting each required step will be sent back to the campus for further interventions.
DSSO also works with at-risk students, students and families who are considered homeless, foster students, etc. All Non-Attendance Related Referrals submitted to DSSO require the Non-Attendance Related Referral form to be filled out completely in order to request DSSO assistance. These referrals are submitted to firstname.lastname@example.org. Referrals received at this email are then assigned to the appropriate staff member for follow up. This process is in effect to create consistency throughout the District and ensure that DSSO has all the necessary information prior to making contact with families.
